Managing the most precious resource after office hours – Time

Think of the three most successful people you know. Do you see any pattern in their time-management techniques? Time management is less about managing time and more about managing ourselves. Here, we've listed out a few ways to go about it:

1. Follow an exercise regime

This is definitely easier said than done. But who can deny the importance of a healthy body? Yoga, running, cycling, taking a brisk- walk, playing golf, hitting-the-gym. There is no dearth of options. As a wise man once said, suffer the pain of discipline or suffer the pain of regret. An hour of exercise is a great way to start the day!

2. Explore disciplines apart from your own

If you are from a technical background, visit an art gallery. If you are a historian, take a short course on data analytics. Investing half an hour a day in exposing yourself to knowledge has amazing long term benefits. For instance, in 1998, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, along with cardiologist Dr.Soma Raju, developed a low cost Coronary stent because Dr. Kalam knew the appropriate low cost material being used in satellites that could also be used in Coronary stents. Isn’t the world a better place with interdisciplinary knowledge?

3. Take a break

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. One of the reasons that techniques like ‘The Neuroscience of Play’ work is because the brain is more productive when it is relaxed rather than under pressure. Go on a hiking trip, listen to music, cook or read. This is all about having a good time.

Please feel free to share your own time management techniques with us in the comments. We’d love to know if these tips help you in any way.
